Battery Energy Storage Project Case Study
Project Owner -Brahma Kumaris Org.
Location- Om Shanti Retreat Centre, Bhora Kalan, Gurugram
Battery energy storage systems (BESS) is often being coupled with solar rooftop by Commercial & Industrial (C&I) sector, as well as residential consumers. BESS basically allows excess solar energy to be stored for utilization later by its beneficiary. Hence, through this case study of an already operational Solar + BESS project, we are analysing in detail the complexities associated with this emerging technology.
The Solar + BESS project in consideration is owned by Brahma Kumaris Org. and caters to the energy requirements of its “Om Shanti Retreat Centre” situated in Bhora Kalan, Gurugram, Haryana. The campus for the centre is spread over an area of 28 acres and houses 200 residents. Commissioned in June 2021, the project size of “Solar+BESS” system consists of 200kWp solar and 1094 kWh BESS, consisting of both lithium-ion and lead acid batteries.
The case study highlights in detail several parameters associated with BESS systems including, project specifications, equipment used, project cost economics, project operation and performance etc. To understand end consumer benefit, consumption details are also analyzed in detail to estimate annual cost savings from the project.
