How E-Motorcycles Are Transforming India’s Two-Wheeler Market
India’s electric two-wheeler journey starts in 2006 with the launch of YObykes, but the tale of Electric Motorcycle in market begun much latter in 2019 with the launch of the Revolt RV400, a bike that was positioned for urban commuter with a practical range of 150 Kms.
From FY2022 to FY2024, the number of electric motorcycles launched stayed moderately low. This could be due to the possibility that, initially Oem’s were focused on early capturing the Electric scooter market or lack of R&D to support the manufacturing of Electric-Motorcycles. However, In FY2025, the number of new launches in this segment has more than doubled.

While the existing players are still paving their way in the market, the new entrants are also now speeding up in this landscape by filling the existential gaps. For example,
- Matter Motors has introduced a unique product called the Aera, entered the market in October 2024 and is the country’s first geared electric motorcycle. It features a four-speed manual transmission system, HyperShift, aimed at offering a manual riding feel in an electric vehicle format.
- Other players like Komaki offers country’s first electric Cruiser bikes giving a range of 160- 240 km, in price bracket of INR 1,29,999 – INR 1,34,999 while
- Ola also offers Roadster series with much diversified variants offering 116-321 km of range in comparatively lower price bracket from INR 74,999 to INR 1,99,999.
- Additionally, Hero has partnered with California-based Zero Motorcycles to co-develop electric bikes for the Indian market.
Clearly, electric motorcycles in India are slowly and steadily gaining traction, supported by rising consumer interest, advancing technology, and growing investor confidence. Moreover, India being the global leader in ICE motorcycles, there is tremendous opportunity for EV players as well in this space. With increasing in product variety and better infrastructure, the coming years are likely to be defined by practicality, technology, affordability and global reach.
