SECI Awards 450,000 MT Annual Capacity Under SIGHT Tranche-II for Green Hydrogen Production
The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has announced the results of its latest auction under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) programme (Mode-1, Tranche-II), which was floated in July 2024. This auction aims to maximize green hydrogen manufacturing, enhance cost competitiveness, and scale utilization through two distinct pathways: technology-agnostic (Bucket 1) and biomass-based (Bucket 2). The bid, opened in December 2024, saw strong industry participation, with 14 players submitting bids totaling 6,26,500 metric tonnes (MT) per annumโfar exceeding the tendered capacity of 4,50,000 MT per annum. Bucket 1 attracted bids for 6,20,000 MT per annum, while Bucket 2 accounted for 6,500 MT per annum. Ultimately, 4,50,000 MT of annual green hydrogen production capacity was awarded, backed by an aggregate maximum incentive allocation of INR 22.39 billion.
The average incentive ranged from INR 0.01 to INR 39.67 per kilogram of green hydrogen.

Selected bidders must commission their projects within 36 months of receiving the award letter. They also have full flexibility in determining project locations, with the option to modify sites during execution. As India continues its push toward becoming a global green hydrogen leader, this auction marks another major milestone. Participants included major industry players such as ReNew and Avaada, along with new entrants like ChemSepT Engineering, Nishal Enterprises, and Ocior Energy.
With this allocation, Reliance Green Hydrogen and Green Chemicals now hold the highest awarded capacity at 1,39,000 MT, followed by ACME, Greenko, L&T, Waaree Cleantech, AM Green Ammonia, and Sembcorp, each securing 90,000 MT. Hygenco follows with a total awarded capacity of 75,000 MT.

This auction builds on the success of SECIโs earlier Mode-I, Tranche-I auction, which saw winners including Reliance Green Hydrogen and Green Chemicals, ACME Cleantech Solutions, Greenko ZeroC, HHP Two (Hygenco), Bharat Petroleum Corporation, Welspun New Energy, Torrent Power, Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation, UPL, and JSW Neo Energy.
The SIGHT programme remains a cornerstone of Indiaโs National Green Hydrogen Mission, developing large-scale hydrogen manufacturing projects while reducing costs. By incentivizing both technology-agnostic and biomass-based pathways, SECI aims to accelerate hydrogen infrastructure development and encourage innovation in energy storage and utilization. As awarded projects progress, ensuring timely execution, cost efficiency, and long-term sustainability will be critical to integrating green hydrogen into Indiaโs clean energy transition and achieving ambitious decarbonization goals.
